Now that my first novel is complete and is hopefully making its way to the top (or bottom, depending which way they are organised) of the slushpiles of a select few agents, it’s time to make some headway with the next one.
I’ve been planning it for a few months and have had a couple of stabs at writing the opening page but not much else. It’s coming, I can feel it, but I know I’m holding back and I’m sure it’s due to the fear of having to start again from the beginning. It feels both exciting and overwhelming. My idea is complete in my head and makes (almost) perfect sense to me but to put that down in 80,000+ words plus is a little daunting to say the least. But it has to be done.
To give me the necessary kick up the arse that’s required, I’ve signed up to NaNoWriMo, a global creative writing event that encourages participants to have a rough copy of a novel (or 50,000 words) completed between 1 and 30 November. Could be just the ticket.
Wish me luck, I’ll see you on the other side…
